20 years ago he came to Bern. For ten years his stay was uncertain. Today the chemist Yohannes Berhane, a bundle of energy from Eritrea, acts as a mediator between the Swiss and the Eritrean culture.
He has for the Eritrean in Bern Courses for native language and culture (HSK) established and a football team for young Eritreans launched. He organizes translations of German-Tigrigna, if there is no enough communication skills at the hospital or at school. He teaches his compatriots about legislation, rules and institutions in Switzerland with the series “Integration through Information”. Starting Kita employees and relief organizations learn about him about Eritrean tradition. Yohannes Berhane from the Eritrean capital Asmara does not do the work.
Since 20 years he lives with his wife Mehret in Switzerland, the two children, today 11- and 13-year-old, were born in Bern and speak with the guests in the widest Bern German.
